The Dooars or Duars are the floodplains and foothills of the eastern Himalayas in North-East India around Bhutan. The foothills of eastern Himalayas are divided into two parts by the river Teesta. These two parts are known as Tarai & Dooars. The western part of the river Teesta is called “TARAI” and eastern part is called “DOOARS”.
Dooars is famous for its rich biodiversity and forests. The most notable of which are Gorumara National Park, Jaldapara Wild Life Sanctuary, Buxa Tiger Reserve and Chapramari forests. These sanctuaries abound in a fascinating diversity of flora and fauna. The vast texture of massive trees sheltering varieties of orchids and resounded with echo of birds and wild animals make it a veritable paradise for lovers of nature and eco-tourism.
