Jaldapara Trip, the Best Way to Explore the Sanctuary



The most famous destination in Dooars is Jaldapara Wildlife Sanctuary, situated in Alipurduar Sub-division of Jalpaiguri district in West Bengal near India – Bhutan boarder. The park has distinct varieties of flora and fauna. Some of the animals that are found in the park are one horned rhinoceros, Bengal tigers, sambar deer, and spotted deer, barking deer, wild pig, hog deer and bison. There a many species of birds that are present here as well and these include many varieties of eagles such as crested eagle and fishing eagle.


Elephant rides are the most important activity in the park and this is extremely popular among the visitors. You can go into the depths of the jungle and it can be a phenomenal experience. Safaris are also available in the park and these are a good way to see the length and breadth of the place.

Chilapata

Hidden deep inside the Chilapata Forests the ruins of a thousand yeas old fort of Nal King has a tremendous historical and archeological importance. On way to Cooch Behar, a trip through the deep and dark Chilapata Forest (20 km from Alipurduar) is a pleasant and exciting experience. Built in the 5th century during the Gupta Empire the ruins still recall the memories of the Golden Age of India.


Toto Para

It lies quite close to the sanctuary and is the only settlement of the Totos tribe, which is reckoned as the most endangered tribal community around the globe. There are only around thousand numbers of members of this community. Various steps have been taken by the government so as to enhance the living condition of the community.


Fort of Nal king

The old fort of Nal king lies deep within the Chilapata forest. The forest was built in the 5th century and has a vast archeological importance.




How to Get There:

Air Way: Bagdogra 145kms from Jaldapara is the nearest airport from where tourist can reach Jaldapara by road-route via Siliguri, noted below. (Siliguri to Bagdogra - 13 km).

Rail Way: The most important railway station in the North East India is NJP. NJP is directly connected with all major stations in India.

Road Way: Jaldapara is connected by National Highway with Siliguri and can be reached by car within 3hrs.
