Destination of Wildlife Jungle Trip at Gorumara




Gorumara is a National Park in northern West Bengal, India. Located in the Terai region of the Himalayan foothills, it is a medium-sized park with grasslands and forests. Gorumara famous for Asiatic one-horned rhino and other wild animals. In view of its great diversity of plants and animals. It is primarily known for its population of Indian Rhinoceros. The park has been declared as the best among the protected areas in India by the Ministry of Environment and Forests for the year 2009.



The park has recorded fifty species of mammals, three hundred species of birds, twenty species of reptiles, and thirty species of amphibians. The park is rich in large herbivores including Indian rhinoceros, gaur, Asian elephant, sloth bear, chital, and sambar deer. Small herbivores include barking deer, hog deer and wild boar. There is a comparative lack of large carnivores, with the only big cat being the Leopard. The park is not home to any resident population of Bengal tigers, Indian wild dogs or Indian wolf. Gorumara National Park is famous for its bird population - which includes brilliant submontane forest birds like the scarlet minivet, sunbird, Asian paradise flycatcher, spangled drongo and great Indian hornbill. Numerous woodpeckers and pheasants inhabit the park.

Elephant Ride at Gorumara :



While in Gorumara, tourists go inside the forests for Jungle safari. Sighting of wildlife is quite common. Elephants, Rhinos, Indian Bison , Peacock, Deer are the most common sightings. The forest safari is organised in special vehicles meant for the purpose. You must book your forest safari from the forest department and take an authorised guide along while visiting the watchtowers. Tresspassing is illegal and can be dengerous as well.

What to see at Gorumara :



Visit to the park and to the Chapramari wild Life Sanctuary. You can make your base in Murti to explore the less tourist trodden wonders of Dooars and lower Kalimpong hills like Chapramari Wild Life Sanctuary, Jaldhaka, Jhalong, Bindu, Paren, Caron, Diana, Jaldapara and even Bhutan.

  1. Anybody visiting Murti must have a deep into the crystal clear water of Murti river. I have the experience and it was an awesome feeling in the nature water with woods all around.

    I have seen Eco village and it is really located in a superb location by the Murti. I would surely cover you next time in my Blog TravelDias.comwhen I write about resorts in Murti.

  2. The best time for going to Tipeshwar Wild Life Sanctuary in Maharashtra is from April to May. As you can see most of tourist will be visited here in this period.
