Enjoy Wildlife Adventure and Learn the History of Bhutanghat





Bhutanghat, 45 km from Alipurduar in West Bengal, is famous for its scenic beauty. Located near the border with Bhutan, this region is blessed by the river Raidak . There is a beautiful forest bungalow overlooking the river. Many known and unknown trees on the hill and rapidly flowing river make it a dream-land.  Bhutanghat is a mountainous terrain, flanked by hills covered with abundant green forests. A violent flow of water comes down from the hill. 






Bhutanghat is elephant country and is an attractive destination for wildlife lovers. Known for its scenic beauty it is idle for leisure holiday and angling. It is only an extension of or is a part of the Buxar Tiger Reserve. West Bengal Forest Development Corporation has resort but with basic facilities only. Winters are cold with foggy mornings and nights. Summer is mild and constitutes a very short period of the year; hence the climate is always conducive to tourism. Endangered species of animals like tiger, rhinoceros, elephant, make their habitats in the forests other animals include different types of deer, bison, birds and reptiles. Bhutan Ghat is well connected by roads and to rest of India and national highway number 31 is the main highway of the area. Tourists can stay overnight in Raidak forest bungalow or Bhutanghat forest bungalow situated at the border of India and Bhutan.

Communication :

Airways: The nearest airport is at Bagdogra, which is 2 to 3 hours drive from Duars / Dooars. Bagdogra airport (IXB) is well connected to Kolkata, Delhi and Guwahati with daily flights. One can avail the airways with two to three hours drive. It is well connected with roads and railways with the neighboring places. Even Paro airport in Bhutan is also 7 to 8 hours drive.

Railways: New Jalpaiguri railway station (NJP) is the major junction.  Though railway is not popular as a mode of transport in the area, yet there are a few railway station and the track passes through scenic sites. Important stations like Rajabhatkhawa, New Cooch Behar, Alipurduar and Chalsa. A scenic rail route between Alipurduar Junction and New Jalpaiguri via Malbazar covers almost entire Dooars region but it is in news as 10 elephants have been killed by speeding train in the last couple of years.




Roadways: The main mode of transport in the area is roadways and is well connected to the rest of India.  National Highway 31 is the main highway passing through Duars. Regular bus services provided by North Bengal State Transport Corporation and Assam State Transport Corporation and other private vehicles are also available, except during tourist season, when it is to be booked prior. Gorumara is 75 kilometers from Siliguri, Chapramari is 68 kilometers from Siliguri, the Buxa Tiger Reserve is 200 kilometers from Siliguri and the Jaldapara is 124 kilometers from Siliguri.
