Feel the sound of nature at Suntalekhola




Suntalekhola is a small village in the Darjeeling District of West Bengal. The altitude of the place ranges from 650 to 950 m. It gets it name from a small stream: Suntale Khola. In Nepali, Suntale means orange and khola means stream. This place is nearly 5 km from Samsing, which is also a small picturesque serene village. The green patch on the left side of the way to Suntalekhola is amazing and holds many rarities of birds and butterflies. Several trek routes originate from Suntalekhola, most of which are within the Neora Valley National Park, which is located adjacent to this place. It is known for its beautiful landscape with green tea gardens, hills and forests, which attract a lot of tourists.


 Different species of birds are found here:


Black Eagle, e.g. Pond Heron, Hill Partridge, Red-vented Bulbul, Ashy Wood Pigeon, Bronzed Drongo, White-throated Fantail, Blue Rock Thrush, Scarlet Minivet, Lesser Racket-tailed Drongo, Rufous Sibia, Grey treepie, Spangled Drongo and Common Green Magpie.

Places to Visit in Suntalukhola:

Chalsa, Dooars, Jhalong, Kalimpong, Lataguri, Jalpaiguri, Siliguri, Bagdogra, Alipurduar, Gorumara, Totopara, Chilapata, Buxa Tiger Reserve.

Other Places of Visit:




Visit Rocky Island (5 km) by the side of the gushing River Murti. Also visit another wonderful spot Lali Gurash (4 km) by the side of the same river. A scenic 5 km/2-1/2 hours trek passing through remote villages and terraced paddy and maize fields takes you to Mouchuki, the entry point to the Neora Valley National Park.

Suntalekhola 18 km north of Chalsa More on NH 31C. From Siliguri, it is 82 km.

Distance:           690 km north of Kolkata, 82 km from Siliguri, 18 km from Chalsa.

Journey Time:    By air: 50 minutes+2-1/2 hours by road; by railway: 10 hours+2-1/2 hours by road.

Route:   NH 34 to Dalkhola via Barasat, Ranaghat, Krishnanagar, Berhampur, Farakka, Raigunj and Karandighi; NH 31 to Sevoke via Kishanganj, Islampur, Bagdogra and Siliguri; NH 31C to Chalsa via Bagrakot, Damdim and Malbazar; SH to Samsing via Khunia More and Matel

  1. Suntalekhola(2500 ft) is amazing place for tracking, most of which are within the Neora Valley National Park. If any one love tracking this is the perfect destination for him or her. Several trek routes originate from Suntalekhola.
